Registry: Summer Extras

My husband and I spend a lot of time out on the boat at the lake over the summer.  This led me to doing some research on what we might need for our little one in order to take him along.  Below are some of my finds:

Babiators:  These sunglasses provide 100% UV protection to your little one in style.  And as an added bonus, they are very flexible and practically indestructible!  They are only $20 a pair and you can purchase a carrying case for $10.

i Play Sun Hat:  These sun hats come in all styles and colors, so you're sure to find one you like.   They also provide UPF +50 protection.

Fiji Sun Swimsuit:  This swimsuit comes in various adorable patterns and colors.  It's rated at UPF 50+ and covers your little one up, meaning less sunblock is needed.

Otteroo Baby Floatie:  This floatie can be used on infants 8 weeks and older (as long as they are 9+ pounds).  You can use it in the bathtub to get your little one used to be in the water and moving their legs and arms freely.

Hospital Bag

With only 5 weeks left until the big day, I've got the hospital bag packed and ready to go!

I've included a breakdown of what's in my bag.  Though it's not listed anywhere, you'll also want to bring some favorite snacks for you and your hubby.

Everything I need for labor is packed in a small tote bag.  I plan to stay home during early labor, so I want those supplies easily accessible.  Everything else will be packed in a carry-on suitcase that can stay in the car for hubby to grab later.

For Labor  (packed in small tote bag)

  • Birth plan
  • Insurance card
  • Driver's license
  • Hair ties/bobby pins
  • Battery-powered massager
  • Sugar-free candies (your mouth may get very dry during labor)
  • Tube sock with tennis balls (recommended by our birth instructor for back massaging)
  • Essential oils (this set comes with a different oil blend for each stage of labor and directions on how to use it)
  • Sports bra (I plan to use the hydro-tub and may want this to keep things in place)

40 Days to Go!

We have exactly 40 days left until our little bean is due to arrive!  And with that said, this perfectly sums up how I'm currently feeling about the 3rd trimester.

Birth Plan

While we wanted a birth plan, we also wanted to keep it simple.  We started with a thank you note to the staff and then listed off items that are important to us.  If you are not sure what you want or don't want as part of your plan, I recommend this birth plan menu as a good place to start.

Heartburn

I basically started to get heartburn as soon as I made it into the second trimester and it has only continued to worsen.  First, my doctor recommended Tums and Mylanta.  I took those for a while with almost no relief, so they added on Famatodine.  I found it to help a little, but still had unbearable heartburn.

Finally, I went in for my recent appointment and they've added Nexium to my medications.  The change was almost immediate - the last 2 nights are the best I've slept in a while.  I also find that my nausea is a little better and I am gaining back some of my appetite.  I'm so glad to finally have found something that gives me some relief!!!

34 Weeks

Arrival Plan

With only 6 weeks left to go, family members are starting to ask questions about the plan for baby's arrival.  To avoid having to answer the same questions over and over, I came up with a plan to share with everyone.  I borrowed the idea from Kandice at A Cotton Kandi Life.

Breastfeeding Basket

In order to make breastfeeding easier, I've made a breastfeeding basket with all of the necessities in one place.  Most of the items are ones that I talked about registering for here.

Here's what my basket includes:
  • Cloth Diapers - I'll be using these in place of burp cloths for anything that needs to be wiped or cleaned up.
  • Baby wipes - for when your burp cloths don't cut it
  • Bamboobies Disposable Nursing pads - place these in your nursing bra or tank to catch any leaks and to prevent whatever cream you're using from staining your tops.
  • Lansinoh Lanolin Breast Cream:  use this to coat the flanges on your pump before pumping to provide some lubrication.  This protects your breasts and makes pumping more comfortable.
  • Earth Mama Angel Baby Nipple Balm:  apply on a daily basis to your breasts to keep them hydrated and soothed.
  • Lansinoh Soothies Gel Pads:  help to soothe and heal sore nipples.  They are supposed to provide instant relief and are recommended especially for when you are first starting to breastfeed.
  • Philips Avent Thermal Gel Pads:  hot and cold packs for your boobs.  You can warm them to increase milk slow or cool them to provide relief from engorgement.  I registered for 2 sets, so that I can have one heating or cooling while I am using the other.
  • Pacifier
  • Toy/rattle
  • Chapstick
  • Hair ties
  • Snacks
  • Water bottles
  • Book/magazine
